3D Print and Zbrush techniques

So trying to get more into Zbrush I looked around the house and found an ideal little project that I could 3D print.  This has just been sent off to see how it comes back.  Not going to blow the world away with this but it was more than a struggle to get back into Maya than I thought!  Jeez! Rusty but got there eventually.

Zbrush masking and morph targets...

Still going at this puffer fish for a 3d print.  Might make it a bath toy now.  I tired slicing one side off last night and didn't like the results.  Any way here it is after learning more about morph targets to selectively apply your detail and working with masks.

Speed paint and comp

Found some time to work into this one a little.  Just something to tide me over while until I get time to sit back down with that silly puffer fish to print it.  Maybe this weekend... ?  looks at wife!? :)  Not to keen on my composition with this one,  no real focal point but got carried away with trying to find a brush for the corn stubble and mud ruts.

3D printing here I come.

So I want to try a 3D print of something and needed a model to experiment with.  This is stage 1 of said model and I shall hopefully post my other stages here.

Something from this kids book idea I had.

Should have carried on with the modelling but couldn't resist messing around with the rendering some more.  Also found the polish tools and material tools.  Right come on get on with it now.

First for the new year.

First of the new year.  A 1 hour study while Noah was sleeping of an image grabbed from the net.  I'd like to work into it some more the right hand side annoys me and the bushes don't sit with the hill at all.  Maybe tomorrow?... ow wait back to work!

Any way start as you mean to go on. :)  Mine first then the image from Google.

Red Dawn

Was hoping to have some sort of chase scene down this rocky canyon at dawn.  not really going anywhere else with it currently, just a real quick speed paint trying out other subject matters with this lasso work flow.

Liking this lasso stuff!

Added some colour to the first image to give it a little bit of mood and context.  Then tried another application for the lasso tool.

Lasso Tool you are my new friend

Never understood how you make a picture by using the lasso tool, so I hit google to expand my tiny mind and learn something new.  Here is the result.

Found some time to try out some more landscape painting, another study but this time trying to get more out of that blending brush in photoshop and the natural brushes with a few techniques I have picked up from my kind friends. :)

Tuesday, 28 August 2012

Been awhile so forced myself to do a simple study,  this still life is from a google image I found just something to copy and practice technique.  Here's hoping it will get me back into the groove.

Testing out my new pad

So I treated myself to a pad and a stylus after some saving and now I'm trying out painting and blogging in a modern age.
Created this all on a pad using an app called procreate with a jotpro stylus.
Not amazing by any means but glad to have proved the process, now I can hopefully work and update in a more flexible format.

At work today someone pointed this cool website out to me and I thought it was a cool way to draw and shade rocks.  http://www.zefrank.com/scribbler/scribblertoo/
So here is a little one I did this evening.

Drawing with a fever...unfortunately not that type of fever.

Started this fine and dandy and then got ill so I'm blaming anything that doesn't work on the fever!  well thats my excuse and I'm sticking to it.  Might try to work it up at some point but not feeling it really so will leave it there I think.

Zbrush exploration

I keep seeing people making awesome things in Zbrush so I thought I would give it a try... Not so awesome but I had fun. :)

Change of subject matter

Some different subjects this time around.  Underwater Jelly fish studies and a Peacock for my wife.

Thought I would go back and try to do some rocks and landscapes again Also tweaked an older image to make it better....I hope.

Misc Sketches

A few Misc sketches to try brushes and textures.

Stormy Scottish Loch

Still too much colour dodge going on but thought I would stop there

More Seaside Landscapes

More coastline landscapes painting.  Trying to get the textures etc right.
